Oh Danny Boy

(1/1)

Lemuel:
Lemuel, hello everyone!
On a recent Lightline, before transmissions, when were all chatting,
someone mentioned the song, Danny Boy.
This brought back so many memories because I sang that song many times
in my younger days.  It has brought tears to many over the years.
I thought you may like to see the lyrics.

                                          Oh Danny Boy
Oh, Danny boy, the pipes, the pipes are calling,
From glen to glen and down the mountainside.
The summer´s gone and all the roses falling,
It´s you, it´s you must go and I must bide.

But come ye back when summer´s in the meadow,
Or when the valley´s hushed and white with snow,
It´s I´ll be here in sunshine or in shadow,
Oh, Danny boy, oh Danny boy, I love you so!

But when ye come, and all the flowers are dying,
If I am dead, as dead I well may be,
You´ll come and find the place where I am lying,
And kneel and say an Ave there for me.

And I shall hear, though soft you tread above me,
And all my grave will warmer, sweeter be,
For you will bend and tell me that you love me,
And I shall sleep in peace until you come to me.

Written by English songwriter Frederic Weatherly in 1913 and set to
                                traditional Irish melody, "Londonderry Air"

Moses Ouko:
Hello Lemuel,
I remember that Lightline. I was on streaming and time did not allow you to sing this songs as requested by one of the participants. Well here is a version I found on YouTube. It is a nice song really with Irish origins but the story behind it is kind of wrapped in mystery as there are many different opinions as to its meaning.

Oh Lemuel,

One of my favorite songs to hear and sing as it is so heartfelt and revealing of the depths of love and loss and longing for that mystical connection we can't help but seek.  Many others I know feel the same as I, for countless times this song has come to the mind and heart of so many on this forum over the years.

Though written, I understand, by a Father for his son, it rings true in all love relationships of the caring and clarity of the pureness of unselfish love that cannot be denied.
