Singer: Marlene Dietrich
Song: Where have all the flowers gone?
Lemuel: Today being Armistice Day and remembering the end of WW1 eighty years ago,
I cannot help but think of some of the most memorable music that speaks volumes of the stupidity
of war.
For those of you who are perhaps too young to remember,I recommend you search on Youtube
and listen to Marlene Dietrich singing "Where have all the flowers gone? This song was recorded
live at the Royal Variety Performance in November, 1963 and became one of the most famous
songs of the sixties.
Marlene Dietrich was a German actress and became as popular in England as she was in Germany.
In the fourth verse of the song, you will hear the following words by Peter Seeger :
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time passing?
Where have all the soldiers gone, long time ago?
Where have all the soldiers gone? Gone to graveyards every one.
When will they ever learn, when will they ever learn?
The song has been recorded by many artists over the years but the Marlene Dietrich version
is the most moving. Enjoy!
