Mitochondria are tiny organelles inside cells that are involved in releasing energy from food. This process is known as cellular respiration. It is for this reason that mitochondria are often referred to as the powerhouses of the cell.It is also said that “mitochondrial dysfunction is an important part of the aging process” and that “it has a limited ability to repair itself when it is damaged.Researchers estimated that the half-life of DNA — the point at which half the bonds in a DNA molecule backbone would be broken — is 521 years. That means that, under ideal conditions, DNA would last about 6.8 million years, after which all the bonds would be broken. So, for those of us who are engaged in the service and who wish an extension of life or longevity, the maintenance of the mitochondria DNA in the cells is very important, by that I mean its renewal every five or ten years.
