FASTING
« on: March 11, 2022, 02:20:04 am »
Teacher: CALUMNIA
Subject: FASTING
T/R: Lemuel
Location: Girona, Catalunya, Spain.
Date/Time: 11th March 2022  07:00 Local  06:00 Z

In many countries of the world, their traditions and customs quite often
include a form of asceticism. Those who participate deny themselves certain
pleasures for a period of time. It can be to abstain from certain foods or drink,
sexual relations, or anything else that is considered to benefit from such
denial.

Muslims celebrate Ramadan for thirty days, which is held each ninth month of
their year. Christians have a similar tradition that lasts for forty days and it is
called Lent.

The object of all forms of asceticism is to learn discipline by controlling the
desires of the physical body, in all its forms. Mind over matter is a well-known
objective but how many really accomplish this in their lives?

When you don´t eat for a while you begin to feel hunger, this is natural and
what you don´t want need to do is to think of your favourite meal. This is the
crux of the matter. What you think and what you feel. If you can control
your thoughts you can control your hunger.

Think about this. You are a smoker and you are out of cigarettes. You are
dying for a smoke and finally, you have to ask someone if they would give
you one. You are lucky, you are given one, now the question, at that moment,
do you smoke that cigarette or does that cigarette smoke you?  When you sit
at the table and in front of you is your favourite meal, do you eat it or does
it eat you?  When you crash out on your sofa after a long day at work, do
you sit on it, or does it sit on you? The big question is, can you resist such
temptation when you need something so badly?

It is only by denying your body certain things that you are able to identify
the different causes of certain appetites. You will come to understand that
there are forces at work that bring to you such appetites.

There are Material, Vegetal, Animal, and Human forces that greatly influence
your appetites and that is the main reason why you need to identify which
one is operating at you at any given time, and when you have identified them
it is like you have flushed out an enemy and from that moment on you will
have greater success in controlling your habits.

To be continued.

Good day.

87.2.4 Silence or mourning was observed after a death so that the ghost would not be attracted back home. Self-torture - wounds - was a common form of mourning. Many advanced teachers tried to stop this, but they failed. Fasting and other forms of self-denial were thought to be pleasing to the ghosts, who took pleasure in the discomfort of the living during the transition period of lurking about before their actual departure for deadland.
87.6.16 Next came the practice of ritual vows, soon to be followed by religious pledges and sacred oaths. Most of these oaths were accompanied by self-torture and self-mutilation; later on, by fasting and prayer. Self-denial was subsequently looked upon as being a sure coercive; this was especially true in the matter of sex suppression. And so primitive man early developed a decided austerity in his religious practices, a belief in the efficacy of self-torture and self-denial as rituals capable of coercing the unwilling spirits to react favorably toward all such suffering and deprivation.
89.3.1 Renunciation came as the next step in religious evolution; fasting was a common practice. Soon it became the custom to forgo many forms of physical pleasure, especially of a sexual nature. The ritual of the fast was deeply rooted in many ancient religions and has been handed down to practically all modern theologic systems of thought.
89.4.1 Sacrifice as a part of religious devotions, like many other worshipful rituals, did not have a simple and single origin. The tendency to bow down before power and to prostrate oneself in worshipful adoration in the presence of mystery is foreshadowed in the fawning of the dog before its master. It is but one step from the impulse of worship to the act of sacrifice. Primitive man gauged the value of his sacrifice by the pain which he suffered. When the idea of sacrifice first attached itself to religious ceremonial, no offering was contemplated which was not productive of pain. The first sacrifices were such acts as plucking hair, cutting the flesh, mutilations, knocking out teeth, and cutting off fingers. As civilization advanced, these crude concepts of sacrifice were elevated to the level of the rituals of self-abnegation, asceticism, fasting, deprivation, and the later Christian doctrine of sanctification through sorrow, suffering, and the mortification of the flesh.
90.4.8 Fasting, dieting, and counterirritants were often used as remedial measures. Human secretions, being definitely magical, were highly regarded; blood and urine were thus among the earliest medicines and were soon augmented by roots and various salts. The shamans believed that disease spirits could be driven out of the body by foul-smelling and bad-tasting medicines. Purging very early became a routine treatment, and the values of raw cocoa and quinine were among the earliest pharmaceutical discoveries.
100.5.10 The more healthful attitude of spiritual meditation is to be found in reflective worship and in the prayer of thanksgiving. The direct communion with one's Thought Adjuster, such as occurred in the later years of Jesus' life in the flesh, should not be confused with these so-called mystical experiences. The factors which contribute to the initiation of mystic communion are indicative of the danger of such psychic states. The mystic status is favored by such things as: physical fatigue, fasting, psychic dissociation, profound aesthetic experiences, vivid sex impulses, fear, anxiety, rage, and wild dancing. Much of the material arising as a result of such preliminary preparation has its origin in the subconscious mind.

136.3.3 Jesus did not go into retirement for the purpose of fasting and for the affliction of his soul. He was not an ascetic, and he came forever to destroy all such notions regarding the approach to God. His reasons for seeking this retirement were entirely different from those which had actuated Moses and Elijah, and even John the Baptist. Jesus was then wholly self-conscious concerning his relation to the universe of his making and also to the universe of universes, supervised by the Paradise Father, his Father in heaven. He now fully recalled the bestowal charge and its instructions administered by his elder brother, Immanuel, ere he entered upon his Urantia incarnation. He now clearly and fully comprehended all these far-flung relationships, and he desired to be away for a season of quiet meditation so that he could think out the plans and decide upon the procedures for the prosecution of his public labors in behalf of this world and for all other worlds in his local universe.
136.4.10 The forty days in the mountain wilderness were not a period of great temptation but rather the period of the Master's great decisions. During these days of lone communion with himself and his Father's immediate presence - the Personalized Adjuster (he no longer had a personal seraphic guardian) - he arrived, one by one, at the great decisions which were to control his policies and conduct for the remainder of his earth career. Subsequently the tradition of a great temptation became attached to this period of isolation through confusion with the fragmentary narratives of the Mount Hermon struggles, and further because it was the custom to have all great prophets and human leaders begin their public careers by undergoing these supposed seasons of fasting and prayer. It had always been Jesus' practice, when facing any new or serious decisions, to withdraw for communion with his own spirit that he might seek to know the will of God.
140.5.8 2. “Happy are they who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be filled.” Only those who feel poor in spirit will ever hunger for righteousness. Only the humble seek for divine strength and crave spiritual power. But it is most dangerous to knowingly engage in spiritual fasting in order to improve one's appetite for spiritual endowments. Physical fasting becomes dangerous after four or five days; one is apt to lose all desire for food. Prolonged fasting, either physical or spiritual, tends to destroy hunger.
140.6.3 “I demand of you a righteousness that shall exceed the righteousness of those who seek to obtain the Father's favor by almsgiving, prayer, and fasting.  If you would enter the kingdom, you must have a righteousness that consists in love, mercy, and truth - the sincere desire to do the will of my Father in heaven.”
140.6.11 When Jesus heard this, he said: “Be willing, then, to take up your responsibilities and follow me. Do your good deeds in secret; when you give alms, let not the left hand know what the right hand does. And when you pray, go apart by yourselves and use not vain repetitions and meaningless phrases. Always remember that the Father knows what you need even before you ask him. And be not given to fasting with a sad countenance to be seen by men. As my chosen apostles, now set apart for the service of the kingdom, lay not up for yourselves treasures on earth, but by your unselfish service lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, for where your treasures are, there will your hearts be also.
142.8.1 By the end of April the opposition to Jesus among the Pharisees and Sadducees had become so pronounced that the Master and his apostles decided to leave Jerusalem for a while, going south to work in Bethlehem and Hebron. The entire month of May was spent in doing personal work in these cities and among the people of the surrounding villages. No public preaching was done on this trip, only house-to-house visitation. A part of this time, while the apostles taught the gospel and ministered to the sick, Jesus and Abner spent at Engedi, visiting the Nazarite colony. John the Baptist had gone forth from this place, and Abner had been head of this group. Many of the Nazarite brotherhood became believers in Jesus, but the majority of these ascetic and eccentric men refused to accept him as a teacher sent from heaven because he did not teach fasting and other forms of self-denial.
146.2.15 14. Jesus warned his followers against thinking that their prayers would be rendered more efficacious by ornate repetitions, eloquent phraseology, fasting, penance, or sacrifices. But he did exhort his believers to employ prayer as a means of leading up through thanksgiving to true worship. Jesus deplored that so little of the spirit of thanksgiving was to be found in the prayers and worship of his followers. He quoted from the Scriptures on this occasion, saying: “It is a good thing to give thanks to the Lord and to sing praises to the name of the Most High, to acknowledge his loving-kindness every morning and his faithfulness every night, for God has made me glad through his work. In everything I will give thanks according to the will of God.”
147.7.2 On Tuesday evening Jesus was conducting one of his customary classes of questions and answers when the leader of the six spies said to him: “I was today talking with one of John's disciples who is here attending upon your teaching, and we were at a loss to understand why you never command your disciples to fast and pray as we Pharisees fast and as John bade his followers.” And Jesus, referring to a statement by John, answered this questioner: “Do the sons of the bridechamber fast while the bridegroom is with them? As long as the bridegroom remains with them, they can hardly fast. But the time is coming when the bridegroom shall be taken away, and during those times the children of the bridechamber undoubtedly will fast and pray. To pray is natural for the children of light, but fasting is not a part of the gospel of the kingdom of heaven. Be reminded that a wise tailor does not sew a piece of new and unshrunk cloth upon an old garment, lest, when it is wet, it shrink and produce a worse rent. Neither do men put new wine into old wine skins, lest the new wine burst the skins so that both the wine and the skins perish. The wise man puts the new wine into fresh wine skins. Therefore do my disciples show wisdom in that they do not bring too much of the old order over into the new teaching of the gospel of the kingdom. You who have lost your teacher may be justified in fasting for a time. fasting may be an appropriate part of the law of Moses, but in the coming kingdom the sons of God shall experience freedom from fear and joy in the divine spirit.” And when they heard these words, the disciples of John were comforted while the Pharisees themselves were the more confounded.
147.8.5 And then long into the night Jesus propounded to his apostles the truth that it was their faith that made them secure in the kingdom of the present and the future, and not their affliction of soul nor fasting of body. He exhorted the apostles at least to live up to the ideas of the prophet of old and expressed the hope that they would progress far beyond even the ideals of Isaiah and the older prophets. His last words that night were: “Grow in grace by means of that living faith which grasps the fact that you are the sons of God while at the same time it recognizes every man as a brother.”

ADMIN
Admin is forced to comment on a situation we consider serious enough to make it clear Lemuel that transmitters sanction by this discussion forum transmit the truth and who may be correctly identified as the divine spokesman.  It is the unfortunate case that human transmitters can make mistakes by transmitting the value of their own experiences in place of a divine entity and genuinely mistake that interchange.   Admin allows this to happen without punitive actions taken by anyone against  anyone.

However, Lemuel this is the fourth such incident in less than two months, and that tells us that your enthusiasm to promote seminal material is great, but so great it overwhelms the sense of discrimination to eliminate your proven wisdom is not always the wisdom of the divine.    That is true here concerning FASTING as a subject.  The error you continuously make Lemuel is you use the name of the divine when you are transmitting the views of yourself and other such experiential work you are familiar with.

I am not asking you stand down, but may I remind you you have single-handedly disabuse about fifty people outside of our web site that fasting is a good works type of practice, but that three translators have come in behind you. translated your FASTINGS transmissions in to Polish, Portuguese, and Spanish what you said under the guise of Calumnia, which is a name you placed on your own views instead.

Further, to you translators:  believe it or not you do have the responsibility to make sure that which you translate is discriminated by your own minds to be truthfully spoken as emanating from a divine personage.  If you know your Urantia Book, dear translators, you would have known that FASTING is not effective in Kingdom practical solutions to give thanks or adhere to the golden rule.  You trust Lemuel, but when in fact you first need to trust your own discrimination that what Lemuel says is the truth.

Let me make one more distinction:

The Roman Catholic fait employs FASTING as part of its liturgy.  We have no object ever over the practice of faith by religious institutions by all kinds of religions.  But we must draw the line because the purpose of this site states well:  WE ARE IN DIRECT CONTACT WITH AUDIO OF TRUTH IN THE VOICE OF GOD.  When a transmitter deviates from any contact and transmits the views of himself we have broken trust and faith.  The site and the Magisterial Foundation fully insist it is a breach of trust and concern of the utmost responsibility of the Magisterial Foundation it takes every precaution to see to it we live up the standards of truth and care for everyone of our listeners and members that what we represent it true to the last moment we present the Voice of God to us and to all who listens.

ADMIN, for that reason suggests strongly that you Lemuel retire.  The Saturday Lightline, tomorrow, is NOT denied to you if you insist, but under the circumstances, repeated warnings and understanding goes unheeded by you to provide the discipline of self patrol to stop these constant admissions of sub-issues not actually presented by the Voice of God, but prevented only and always by you.  Admin understands you have battled so much and feel so bad physically that you preserve much of what we needed to hear the Voice of God, but for whatever reason the transmissions you do prevent in the last 60 days have had to be called back at least on several occassions that are preventable from happening.

You are always welcome to operate and post to the forum, and use it to post your views and points of view; however, ADMIN is asking we stop of the Voice of God transmissions until revisions are made available to you to continue otherwise in the future.  I stand back now and allow CALUMNIA to address the forum:

CALUMNIA SPEAKS:  "WE fully agree with admin and seek your retirement Lemuel.  You are unable to persuade yourself you are guilty of this kind of behavior and as such we are asking for a voluntary removal of transmitting the Voice of God at least for now until there are revisions to the entire LIGHTLINE process.

"For that reason LEMUEL, we are removing the transmission ability for the moment and you are not to be concerned by the temporal silence you now get eve now today and while it is rather pleasant at times it is more or less permanent until there is a good reason rely upon you again.  We do this, as Ron does, with regret as you have been a good servant and soldier.  But these mistakes are the result of you believing you are too inflatable to have them happen; yet they do.  Resolve to do better if revived with the new LIGHTLINE PROTOCOLS soon coming.

"I, CALUMNIA DID NOT TRANSMIT anything to do with FASTING, Lemuel.  I will leave it at that.  Furthermore Ron saw it early this morning and resolved to deal with later today and he is now doing so fully and well.  Consequently he must make several statements I make for emphasis:

1 - "Why are translators moving in and just taking it on faith they want to do it as truth?  It is not."

2 - "Why is SERARA.ORG being subject to releasing materials it has vouched for as trustworthy truth, as have let the discussion forum and the Magisterial Foundation down as it is not truth by a viewpoint;

3 - "There is no longer an unfettered station to the discussion forum that anything you say or do on it is guaranteed to stand the test of time.  I know Ron has looked at a number of you as you have given up; you listen, but take no discipline or freedom to ensure better quality of the actual situation the world URANTIA has to operate with at all.  For that reason many of you whistle past the grave of an insurrection not yet fully dead and hope you are not noticed.  Ron declares the general approach now as wanton disregard except as one may chose to listen and make no stand one way or the other.  There are important exceptions to this as soe of you have shown with posts which do make a point for the benefit of all.

4 -  "I am finalizing work with JESUS myself, and that BESTOWAL SON is fully enjoying Ron wrapping cabal members for insurrection as well as useless insults to him to divide him from his help and friends.  One helps by staying the course; one does not help facing JESUS as perfect niravanna without any responsibility to roll up your sleeves to do some work without bowing and scraping before Jesus.  Some of you are warned many times but we see how useless that is too.

5 -   JESUS CHRIST SPEAKS: "I am sure this means nothing to most of you, but we are united with Ron as he is united with us we must do out best to get things done and frankly that will under the guise of a malestrom of objections by the nation states of Urantia when they have to learn to abide under a REGENCY that now is vitally important to the survival of Urantia.  You mostly all forget it, but do not.

"SECOND, "There is no truth to the rumor we have everything under control.  We do not.  Please understand if you do think you see it, and that is the fact that Urantia is under the cabal and Ron knows exactly their mischief and refuses to give them a pass always and forever as far as he is concerned.  He is fear for the Ascendance career now and that is not probable ever, but they can make his passing a horror of sounds and spooks and he is aware of such this morning when they pulled a major blooper.  In any case, understand that I JESUS have nothin to say further once again the cabal makes it necessary to withdraw early. "

MICHAEL OF NEBADON - "Lastly, Lemuel, you are not being chastised but taken back to avoid more of these accidents you have trouble understanding happen to you.  As ill as Ron may become he is never out of earshot of a working Adjuster who sees to it he hears the truth.  Your Adjuster Lemuel is as good but you snuff it off.  So is the vanities of old age mostly and you will do better in whatever form later Lemuel in months or years to come.  We end this only to say, you have had it coming now, so relax and wait it up for the moment.  FATHER OF ALL now speaks:

'WE ARE ALSO SURE that you Lemuel cannot further elucidate just what is going on around you for the simple reason you are snuffed with so many cabal members around you you cannot tell the difference.  Ron has the same thing but refuses to listen to the sophistries of what are useless subjects and says so.  I leave it also to you to be active as a member and let the folds flow asy ou can for the time being.  Good day.  FATHER"

Ron as ADMIN - We close this for now.  I am not enforcing a no fly zone for you Lemuel, but asking you to step back before or after the Saturday Lightline because it is "ify" Saturday goes over even bigger fights broiling and boiling over our work as Lightline outreach.  With best wishes for a touch road to hoe for the present moment, take your rest and feel well.

Dear Members,
Since September of last year, I have transmitted 124 Subjects
from Calumnia and enjoyed every one of them but recently I have been guilty
of inadvertently allowing my own experience to become a subject and not
always that from Calumnia. It has been a great honour to have had such a
Teacher assigned to me.

I have sent a letter of my resignation to Ron as a transmitter and as a member
of the discussion Forum. It has been a pleasure to know you all and I shall
miss you, but I will continue being about Father´s business for as long as
I remain here.

It only remains for me to thank all of you for your friendship and I wish you
success in any and all of your endevours.

Lemuel

p.s. I will not host today´s LLUSA. (I did enjoy it!)

Dear Lemuel,
I know this is difficult, but there is LIGHT at the end of this tunnel. You and I have in common the desire to do God's will and that is the important thing. I do wish you would reconsider and at least stay with the forum for a little bit longer. There is still good information here and you may find that you want to contribute to some of the discussions.

Already God has been showing me things that I believe will take me down a slightly different path than being a host, but I believe it will be a better fit for me. You have been so dedicated and I know you have very graciously taken the slings and arrows that have come to you.

Thank you Lemuel for all you have given us.
Blessings,

Good afternoon Lemuel,

Sincerely I am going to miss you, and I hope that one day you come back.
I want you to remember the words of the Universal Father:

''... I am Light. When you feel threatened by darkness, or even if you don't
feel threatened by darkness, invite me as Light to not only inhabit you, to
surround you, and I would flow through you should you allow it to be so.
I AM Life. I gave you Life.''

May the Father bless you.

Although I often repeat what I learned from Sai Baba when unforeseen and surprising events happen: "Everything happens because they have a PERFECT reason to happen", Lemuel's case we cannot or I cannot assimilate it so far. Being one of the most outstanding pillars of the forum, I hope his resignation is not irrevocable, because for all the members here, Lemuel with his frequent postings and for the Spanish speaking ones his LL on Thursdays will be hard to replace.
In circumstances such as these where one feels gloom and inability to understand, I console myself by resorting to the immense truth that everything is nothing more than a Divine Game, where "The dead do not die and the murderer does not kill", and where the only requirement is Integrity, fair play. Thanks
